Riad Azzar, a comfortable, elegant and tranquil sanctuary in the ancient medina of Marrakesh.
Life in the Riad focuses inwards, a design principle favoured in Islamic notions of privacy. The name ‘Riad’ comes from the Arabic word for a garden, where trees and arcades create a peaceful oasis, lush with plants and cooled by fountains and pools.
Riad Azzar has been open since January 2004 and from the very start has made a significant mark. The house is furnished in beautiful soothing colours and comforts for a sense or peace.
An atmosphere of refined charm is apparent as soon as you duck into the small entrance and enter an elegant courtyard area with a gorgeous plunge pool, banana tree and many other plants and flowers. You will feel immediate at home in Riad Azzar with an affable feeling that also pervades the 3 rooms and 3 suites and the other public areas such as the pleasant alcoves, the comfortable dining room, the salon with music and books and a roof terrace with lounge area and sun beds to sunbathe in privacy.
Everything in the Riad smacks of a subtle sensuality and a refined taste.
It is a joy to find yourself back in the peace and quiet of this fine and very comfortable Riad and to savour the culinary delights concocted by the ever smiling and excellent cook Fatima.
There are certain places on the surface of the earth that possess more magic than others. and one of those places is Marrakesh.

The Salon
We are in North Africa, and the colours of the salon reflect this: the red of Marrakech, the ‘rose-red city’, the rust and ochre tones of Morocco, and the yellow warmth of the African sun.
Wall niches, common in traditional Moroccan homes, display art collected by the owners during their extensive travels to many countries, such as Ethiopia, Uganda, Zambia, Iran. The courtyard with the plunge pool and plants is central to the concept of Riad life. For cooler months, a fireplace adds cosiness, while the courtyard is kept in view through glass doors.
The Dining Room
In the cooler months, guests can enjoy the culinary delights of our excellent cook Fatima for a romantic candle light dinner beside the fireplace in the cosy and comfortable dining room.
The Roof Terrace
Whether for sun bathing, open-air dining or relaxing in the shady lounge area, the roof terrace is one of the places most favoured by guests to while away their days.
Usually the guests start their day with a delicious Moroccan breakfast which is being served on the roof terrace.
A full drinks and kitchen service means meals can be served on the terrace year-round, and there is always someone to make a glass of mint tea or bring you a cooling drink.
